A short but rich history
The founding project of Wizz Air was outlined in June 2003 in a moment when 6 persons, with a vast experience in the air transport business and with exceptional results in other industrial domains, made a team with Jozsef Varadi, the company's Director-general.
In less than 3 months, the company was already registered and ready to fly.
The first flight took off in Katowice on May 19, 2004. At this moment Wizz Air has 5 bases in the region: Katowice, Warsaw, Gdansk in Poland, Budapest in Hungary and Sofia in Bulgaria.
Wizz Air offers flights from other cities in Central and Eastern Europe.
As part of the continuing development in Eastern Europe, this summer, the company has begun with a series of flights from Croatia (Zagreb Split) and from Slovenia (Ljubljana) and follyoing that from January 15 2007, Romania (Bucharest, Arad) will be part of the network.
From its beginning in May 2004, Wizz Air has transported approximately 3,7 million passengers and became the biggest low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe.
